Eastern vs Western Philosophical Thought: Is their a difference?

On personal study time…..Is their a difference between Eastern and Western Philosophical Thought? Where would you draw the line between East and West? or is it a gradual change when you travel from East to West?

My next entries will be a little more serious in that I will examine these questions in a somewhat technical manner.

Why is this important?

Well, when trying to understand cultural differences and ability to control the masses Political Thought is very important. What ideas guide the masses and what questions do they want to answer or not to answer. Is silence respected? Are questions looked at as taboo? Does one have the ability to question and learn for oneself? Or, is one suppose to learn from the stories told by the older generation.

All in all, I believe this is a worthwhile examination into into our educational and epistemic cultural differences in a drive for modern hybridization of epistemic methods in order to come to a workable atmosphere. This is not an examination to describe one way as better than the other. It is an examination to strive for a new way an all encompassing way to guide us into inquiry for inquiries sake.

If you would like to read the article which sparked this new found desire to study, I found an entry in Stanford’s Encyclopedia of Philosophy entitled: “Comparative Philosophy: Chinese and Western.” a link to the article is found below:

Once again I think this is a worthwhile re-examination because this article was written in 2001 and now almost 20 years later we can see where we are going and where we are heading.
