It is very simple to distill life down to black and white; right and wrong; and, good and evil. However, if we are all connected in the universe, what does that mean. Do social interaction and social institutions have yin and yang balance and need that balance in order to thrive and flourish.
Let us think about this for a second.
In the world of physics when studying forces, every force has and equal and opposite counter force. This is called, Newtons third law of motion. As a result, yin and yang exist in the study of physics accordingly.
It seems to me that many people might think that Freedom is inherent in our system and that our type of freedom must be exported to all other parts of the world. Without getting too technical, empires and civilizations have been trying to accomplish this from time immemorial. Too keep it simple, a quick read of Gulliver’s Travels will illustrate the illogicalness of civilizational export. Who cares how I eat my breakfast or if I eat breakfast at all. When we start flexing muscles especially in the world of international politics power usually rules. No matter how much of a soft power one thinks they extort, when you have a six fold military might from the rest of the world your soft power can and will be backed up.
For the Americans it is dammed if you do and dammed if you don’t as well. I am not anti-American at all. I am just scared when that power is being disguised even from its people. The Americans, every one of them could be living. All living the standard of living next to none if their population was educated. Educated in the manner of social studies and philosophy so that when they hit it big, first they don’t squander their riches but also so that they can give back to the community.
What does this have to do with yin and yang?
Well to put it simply, the world still is divided between the us and them camps the haves and the have nots. As a result, we need balance. When we tip the canoe sometimes we just drift away. As a result, we have been polarized and many resort to apathy. Searching for the mighty dollar does not give you happiness but it certainly gives you freedom. Freedom to get away with things. Freedom to travel. Freedom to learn and educate yourself. Freedom to talk and freedom to be confident and maybe happy. However, if you let things be then your a drifter and apathetic drifter.
As a result, we have three camps, the us, them and the apathetic drifters. In the end if we all just let things be and let the us and them camps show their true colors then we will all have true freedom. Freedom not to be labeled and all be free to drift. Drift in time and place and drift to true happiness.
As a result, yin and yang combined with apathetic observers who let yin and yang exist. To be an apathetic observer you must be educated to a certain degree and have had a taste of at least three classes of society upper, lower middle classes and poor. If when going down a few steps in social status does fix your issues with society and create you to want to read write and become an apathetic observer and just let things be. Because letting things be will let the universe run its own path. Yes, we must all be masters of our own destinies but knowing when one can and when one cannot is key. So the safest bet is to let things run their own course, everyone’s true colors show up over time; individually, and societally.
