Post-Truth: Should we be scared?

Post-truth would imply that we are living in a world that truth does not exist, or does it? Or, does it mean that we have advanced to the point that we all should know what is true, what is right and what is wrong.

In the scientific scence we all should know what is true in the physical sense after some observation and furth inquiry. When it comes to the moral sense what is right and what is wrong, and in the end should it really even matter.

After some education and travel many will come to the realization that we humans havemany simmilar needs and wants and that is security, shelter, nutritional requirement and the freedom to react and interact with other human beings. weather it be trading with one another or just a pleseant conversation on just about anything we all have these needs.

Unless one wants to live a life of solitude it can be quite apparent that it is in our nature to be social human beings. solitude is not for everyone, one can become lonely and depressed and books sometimes just do not cut it. Like the pepsi commercial in the 80’s “nothing is better than the real thing.”

As a result, in ones quest to fill the void of loneliness one can try and start a family. But one must no that this is no simple task. One must be completely shure and ready to go after this endeavour. Sometimes careers get in the way and its a shame and balances are needed.

Just imagine a society that would create the ground work for women to have children in their twenties so that they do not have to worry about negative effects on their careers. As a result, social support to all those women who want to have children get support and education in their twenties so that they do no have to worry about estabishing a career before they have children. I think this a good idea….but what does that have to do with post truth.

In the end Post-Truth means that we must create our own truths to maximize social and economic growth amonst all walks of life. To borrow from neo-liberal principles if we have too much we then have too much to lose in case of war.

As a result, trade and dependancy on one another for goods and sevices should have prevented war in places like the Ukraine and Russia. Russia is still using european energy dependancy as a bargining chip as they should. Too me it looks like the USA’s efforts to exit the neo-liberal paradise of globalization has had some after effects and one of them is to once again create a world of two camps. To relase europe of energy dependancy the US wants to sell their oil and gas to europe but that is expensive and only benefits the US and anit-globalization.

I am not sure if this is a good idea but if we are to have competition in a healthy sense it may be a good thing for humanity a yin and yang in all areas of global trade and interaction.

The facts are that globalization has lifted the global population out of poverty at its fastest pace ever in human history. this is a good thing. But to level the playing field, the west had to incur the loss of many manufacutring jobs and loss of the stregth of the middle class for the benefit of all.

So what does this tell us of human nature. It is telling us that indeed we are selfish and want to restore and a level playing feild in global trade and poverty eliminating iniciatives are too high a price to pay for western populations. Is it time to rid ourselves of the scrouges of the nation state and nationalism? I think so, but hopefull we can do this with out a huge global world war.

If you think about the nation state as a house of like minded individuals who share resources and all aspects of life it could be a good thing but for the benefit of all mankind we need to sacrifice this independance and have a true global government one tht looks for all our needs and first then we need regionalism to take form before we can evolve to this state of being.

Just imagine and then inovate policy to the slow transformation. If we held all resources world wide in common whould we have anything to fight about or worry that our supplier will cut off our gas if we do not agree with their internal policies.

I know this is wishful thinking but just imagine a world like that, truly we then would have less to fight about. and that maybe the truth of post truth. It doesn’t matter as long as we all live a good life.

Economist our their do the calculations and make this happen.

Balancing Duties and Responsibilities and the State.

A friend who is very outspoken on the recent developments in CUBA has illustrated the prize Cuban Athletes receive. They get a huge extra load of rations and goods like no other. Their medals are not even theirs but the state.

Although one must also understand the Cuban governments stance. In a system that promotes equality the ability to compete and be trained in a sport is a privilege. The Cuban government perceives the medal is the countries and not the individual athlete which in that type of system is correct when nation is above all else.

When we live in the west or developed social democratic societies we pride the individual and the rights inherent within. everything in our lives revolve around us and thus when we make it, we think we deserve all the comes to us. However, what about the community which let you grow to become a great athlete. Will you pay them back and help your teammates and coaches out.

Hopefully and it would be the right thing to do, however, how many have squandered their riches with excesses and waste. The Cuban government takes that out of the equation and takes those choices from them and redistributes fame and fortune. Whether it is right or wrong, it really doesn’t matter. What matters is that we all be good people. Nobody wants to see professional athletes and pop stars loose everything because they could not handle fame. Is the Cuban governments position a little extreme, I think so. But our position is a little selfish and too free. So all I am trying to say is that a better balance is needed to allow some to bask in the glory of being a champion but also give back to the communities or nation they came from. Novak Djokovic and Vlade Divac are great examples of this and lets hope when we train our athletes at home and abroad we also teach them how to be good people and not selfish fame hungry individuals.

The appropriateness of the “‘Yin’ and ‘Yang'”: Are opposites needed to navigate life and come to some sort of true meaning?

It is very simple to distill life down to black and white; right and wrong; and, good and evil. However, if we are all connected in the universe, what does that mean. Do social interaction and social institutions have yin and yang balance and need that balance in order to thrive and flourish.

Let us think about this for a second.

In the world of physics when studying forces, every force has and equal and opposite counter force. This is called, Newtons third law of motion. As a result, yin and yang exist in the study of physics accordingly.

It seems to me that many people might think that Freedom is inherent in our system and that our type of freedom must be exported to all other parts of the world. Without getting too technical, empires and civilizations have been trying to accomplish this from time immemorial. Too keep it simple, a quick read of Gulliver’s Travels will illustrate the illogicalness of civilizational export. Who cares how I eat my breakfast or if I eat breakfast at all. When we start flexing muscles especially in the world of international politics power usually rules. No matter how much of a soft power one thinks they extort, when you have a six fold military might from the rest of the world your soft power can and will be backed up.

For the Americans it is dammed if you do and dammed if you don’t as well. I am not anti-American at all. I am just scared when that power is being disguised even from its people. The Americans, every one of them could be living. All living the standard of living next to none if their population was educated. Educated in the manner of social studies and philosophy so that when they hit it big, first they don’t squander their riches but also so that they can give back to the community.

What does this have to do with yin and yang?

Well to put it simply, the world still is divided between the us and them camps the haves and the have nots. As a result, we need balance. When we tip the canoe sometimes we just drift away. As a result, we have been polarized and many resort to apathy. Searching for the mighty dollar does not give you happiness but it certainly gives you freedom. Freedom to get away with things. Freedom to travel. Freedom to learn and educate yourself. Freedom to talk and freedom to be confident and maybe happy. However, if you let things be then your a drifter and apathetic drifter.

As a result, we have three camps, the us, them and the apathetic drifters. In the end if we all just let things be and let the us and them camps show their true colors then we will all have true freedom. Freedom not to be labeled and all be free to drift. Drift in time and place and drift to true happiness.

As a result, yin and yang combined with apathetic observers who let yin and yang exist. To be an apathetic observer you must be educated to a certain degree and have had a taste of at least three classes of society upper, lower middle classes and poor. If when going down a few steps in social status does fix your issues with society and create you to want to read write and become an apathetic observer and just let things be. Because letting things be will let the universe run its own path. Yes, we must all be masters of our own destinies but knowing when one can and when one cannot is key. So the safest bet is to let things run their own course, everyone’s true colors show up over time; individually, and societally.

Parasites and Political Affiliation

After watching the latest Jordan Peterson podcast with Dr. Randy Thornhill on parasitism and political affiliation it is was hypothesized the more conservative you are the more likely for one to be xenophobic. I agree with this hypothesis.

The data presented was pretty interesting and I think valid.

As a result, it is imperative that we learn that “the Spanish Flu” pandemic was a precursor to the most xenophobic regime know to man, The Nazi’s. So, the rise of xenophobia and the stressors associated with filth and parasitism. These next few years we must be careful not to fall into the trap of the past because ultra right xenophobia is on the rise and must be curtailed so that we do not end in a world war.

Free Speech, Power and Common Discourse.

Are we ever aloud to talk incoherently; publicly, in any case? Maybe, but you must choose your words when talking in public. When in private depending on the company speech can and will cause some to shutter, others to love and many to tune out.

Public, private discourse and art need to understand that we live in a society or global market place of ideas that time and place can and will determine how one will speak. Power has much to do with this relationship.

Time and place mean development of the area you live and the laws which govern the citizens in that time and place. Development means the development of the mind and laws that; that, time and place adhere to. Not to delve into the area of behaviorism what makes one speak; Or, speak at all.

this is an oversimplification of course and I will examine societal development or civilization in the next article.

What makes one go to a protest or fight for ones rights to gather as a collective. If we are to take power as central to this, many can and will be disappointed. For example, sanctions for someone in an unequal economic relationship can and will work over time. For example, the Cuban population has been under sanctions from almost the birth of their socialist nation. The US with much more power and economic clout is the dominate power in the area and a socialist country 90 miles from their border is a catastrophe and thorn in the side the American psyche.

To see the cheers of the Americans to turmoil in Cuba, is them shifting their power for a regime more conductive to American hegemony. So, is this the real will of the people or just another power maneuver or lack of any other options.

Think about the right to self determination and sovereignty, the latter not that important anymore. So, power imbalances can and will show one what options one has and does not.

Back to free speech. What can you say and when you can say things? You cannot say anything unless one is an authority and it really comes down to “Money Talks.”

Politics of identity!

What is in an identity?

To think about it; identity, is what makes one sleep at night.

If you are comfortable with your identity then you can and will be able to accomplish anything.

Those with identity issues will most likely have difficulty in life because that search can and will run one down.

Why are we so compelled to define oneself in the first place? That is a great question and one that can and will benefit one to answer.

Its been a while since my last POST!

I have chosen to remain silent for a while because a lot has been happening. COVID has stretched everyone’s patience and I know we all need to do the right thing but it is difficult when our leaders do not even know what the right thing is.

What is the right thing? I truly do not know either. We have been caught off guard and I think that we here in the developed world are confusing rights with public health. In Canada, we have the quarantine act and your rights can be stripped if you have a contagious disease I think since 2016.

The faster we realize this the faster we can get on with normal life. If you are a threat to yourself and others you can and will lose your rights, until one understands that actions can and will be sanctioned if deemed dangerous. Is this good, I think so.

So please stop the nonsense and live civilized life. No one said you are free to hurt yourself so don’t do it.

Trump’s Storming of the Capital :(

I have taken a few days to react to this event. Not only was it a shame after inciting his followers to storm the bastille 4 of his supporters including some police officers lost their lives.

If any regular citizen incited riots they would be rounded up and arrested in no time.

Privlege and afluenza in the USA and other capitalist societies, nevermind only captialist but in all societies is what is at issue here. Consistency in the rule of law must be applied if we as citizens are to trust our legal and political systems.

There are no sides in this battle but one of regaining the legitimacy of our political order/orders.

This can be seen as a problem world wide and people are losing faith in our systems and major ethical and corrupt deficientcies are found throughout the (east/west/north/south), world.

Although most would like to forget the last four years of American politics, it just illustrates how a man with money and power can capture the whole state apparatus and maybe some changes needed in the electoral system. Although, Trump was sucessful in some major areas in US politics, economics and foreign policy. His arrogance and detestability caused massive social devide.

As a result, America is now polarized and divided in a civil war like mentality, its war in a new sense. I hope armed conflict can and will be avoided and that is why I say “never trust a politician,” becuse they do not care about personal circumstances or how many lives will be ruined or lost just so that they can hold power. Yes, their are a few good politicians out there but never trust them because once the calculations are out of your favour you will be stabbed in the back.

To end this post, I would just like to encourage all who hate violence, civil strife and arrogance to think about what a world would be like without violence just think about it and then think how one can make this a reality, your comments would be greatly appreciated.

Critical Theory and the End of Democracy. The Canadian Context.

For background read this article first: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/critical-theory/

I’m not sure that the end of Democracy will come soon but it is inevitable as our freedoms through every stage and new hurdle have been curtailed.

In the Canadian context the first past the post voting system is far from democratic or best form of Democracy (Proportional Representation)

The Supreme Court of Canada will hear on the first past the post system and it will be really interesting to read the decision.

If we care for democracy we will have electoral reform but it would change Canada forever just like P.E. Treadau changed canada in the 70’s with mulicultralism and a new constitution. Fitting that Justin Treadau would also make another monumnetal change as to how Canada works following in his fathers footsteps.

If we take Democracy for Granted we will loose it. So proportional representation is the way to go. Lets do this.
